Dr Kieren Maddern - Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia

Dr Kieren Maddern is a European-boarded veterinary anaesthesiologist and recognised specialist in anaesthesia and analgesia. She has a particular interest in the assessment and management of pain in animals, with a strong focus on raising awareness of this often-overlooked problem. Kieren is dedicated to providing state-of-the-art perioperative analgesia and chronic pain management, both within surgical settings and on an outpatient basis.
Kieren graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Hons) from the University of Queensland in 2000. Early in her career, she worked in general practice, at the University of Queensland Veterinary Emergency Centre, and as a Clinical Registrar in Veterinary Anaesthesia at the University of Sydney.
In 2005, she attained Membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS) in Anaesthesia and Critical Care. Kieren then undertook a senior clinical training scholarship (residency) in anaesthesia and analgesia at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket, UK. In 2009, she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia (ECVAA).
Since completing her residency, Kieren has provided specialist anaesthesia services in a range of settings, including university hospitals, private referral centres, and as an independent consultant. From 2010 onwards, she has worked extensively in Australia, Singapore, Hong Kong and mainland China. She is currently based in Brisbane and offers expert anaesthesia and pain management consultancy services to veterinary practices throughout the region.
