Removing complex teeth safely and with minimal impact.
Patient Information
Name: Cosmo
Age: 2 years old
Breed: Burmese
Gender: Female, Spayed

Presenting Problem
Cosmo, a young Burmese cat, was diagnosed with supernumerary maxillary carnassial teeth, leading to concerns about possible oral discomfort. The presence of extra teeth can cause overcrowding, which may lead to significant periodontal disease and other oral health issues.
Diagnostics and Treatment
We performed dental radiographs to confirm the presence and position of the additional teeth, as well as their size and impact on surrounding structures. Due to the complexity of the case, the supernumerary teeth were extracted along with the ‘normal’ fourth premolar teeth to ensure complete removal and access to the partially impacted teeth.

Outcome
The procedure was successful. This intervention was crucial in preventing further oral health complications and alleviating any potential discomfort Cosmo may have been experiencing.

Veterinary Comments
“The extraction of Cosmo’s supernumerary teeth was necessary due to the poor eruption and overcrowding that could lead to significant periodontal disease.”
“Overcrowded teeth can trap food and debris, exacerbating oral health problems.”
“Additionally, Cosmo exhibited excessive chewing habits, possibly due to oral discomfort caused by the extra teeth.”
“The successful removal of these teeth should alleviate any discomfort and prevent future dental issues.”
