Dr Brenda Dixon - Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
BVSc (Hons), MANZCVS (Anaesthesia & Critical Care)
Dr Brenda Dixon is a highly respected registrar in veterinary anaesthesia, with over four decades of experience in tertiary veterinary anaesthesia education and specialist veterinary practice.
She graduated with honours from the University of Queensland (UQ) in 1983 and began her career in small animal general practice in Brisbane’s western suburbs.
After 2.5 years in general practice, she returned to UQ to complete a small animal clinical internship.
Brenda then spent nine years at the University of Sydney Veterinary Teaching Hospital, where she undertook her training in Anaesthesia and Critical Care under the mentorship of the late renowned anaesthetist Dr Martin Pearson (PhD, BVSc, MRCVS). In 1992, she was awarded Membership to the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
Returning to Brisbane, Brenda worked in private practice briefly before returning to the University of Queensland’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital as an Anaesthesia registrar responsible for final year clinical teaching and providing anaesthesia, analgesia, and critical care support to the hospital. Her extensive knowledge, clinical skill, and mentorship have made her a trusted and well-respected authority in her field.
Brenda left UQ at the end of 2020 but continues to provide advanced anaesthesia services across several specialist hospitals in Brisbane, including a permanent part-time role at ARH Brisbane. She is passionate about providing high-end anaesthesia and analgesia services to all patients in her care as well as providing clinical education and mentorship to fellow colleagues.
Outside of her professional life, Brenda enjoys spending quality time with her family and beloved grandchildren, as well as her cherished Schnauzer. She also has a passion for travel and exploring new places whenever she gets the chance.
